Further Research
From the previous experimentation I felt that I had no researched enough into art which had been produced for mental health. From gaining knowledge from my collaborative partner i decided that to limit the campaign just to anxiety would not be suitable as I want to create a campaign that communicates with a wide range of audience.
Below is imagery from an experiment carried out by a student, this piece of work is trying to show how the brain works with mental health issues through using silhouettes and textures. I Found this idea particularly interesting, the idea of linking the human head with visuals of what you thought, is quite captivating, it also is clear and comes across to the public and is obvious.
Developing further research I used design inspiration to gain more insight into mental health design. From an interview i carried out earlier, i found that someone who is going through a panic attack, anxiety attack or even health issues such as heart attack, that if they were looking at poster design, they'd want something calming and simple. An example of this would be the image below which used a number of square boxes and one box which isn't in place which shows theres something wrong with it. This could mean many things one being it could be a message to show that issues such as anxiety, depression etc is hidden easily and shows that not everyone feels or is the same.
An interesting factor to note through this research is that a number of these designs all use shapes rather than photographs, if we look back at the older research we can understand the reason for this. Photography which is used in mental health/health issues design is often distressing and upsetting, using shapes like these posters is a softer way of showing the same thing. We often see also that posters which use shape are a lot simpler and delicate which is how they should be due to the target audience.
Earlier we discussed how photography is often used when it came to health issue posters, this is an example of a common idea of photography for schizophrenia as its showing two people therefore two personalities. This photo we can agree is disturbing to look at and create an uncomfortable feeling. Personally we do not think that this is right due to health posters are meant to support & calm people who suffer from it not make them feel more on edge, therefore this is the reason the above images work better.
Even when we look at modern art of this topic it's equally as inappropriate, for it to be an appropriate piece of work i'd feel it would have to be for a horror or thriller movie as these such scenes are used in movies.
From this research gathered I have been inspired by imagery created my students & artists however I have also learnt how photography can be inappropriately used when it comes to such sensitive topics such as these. From finding this research I want to combine the idea of photography and use images which in comparison to these are relaxing, the images which will be used from my collaborative partner Izzy.
